Detail of TRCN categories for teachers
Always register under your current ‘highest’ qualification and upgrade later.
1. TRCN category A
This is the TRCN category level for teachers with Doctorate degree (PhD).
Though the highest category, it still requires a teaching qualification for TRCN REGISTRATION.
So you’re not under this category if you hold a PhD alone.
You must also possess either a degree in education, PGDE/PDE or an NCE plus your PhD to be eligible for category ‘A’ registration.
You cannot upgrade this category because it is already the highest.
2. TRCN category B
This category is for teachers with Masters degree in Education or any other field.
If your Masters is not in education, TRCN requires you have either your first degree in education, a PGDE/PDE or an NCE for successful registration.
And you already have one or more of the above qualifications if your Masters is in education.
Or is it possible to obtain an M.Ed. or M.Sc. (Ed) without any of the three educational backgrounds?

3. TRCN category C
Teachers with Bachelor’s degree or HND fall under this TRCN category C.
For Bachelor’s degree
Your degree must be in education (B.Sc.(Ed), B.A.(Ed), B.Ed.) and if not, then possess one of PGDE/PDE or NCE.
For HND
Any of PGDE/PDE or NCE is also required since your diploma is not in education.
Category ‘C’ can be upgraded to ‘B’ once the required qualification is obtained.
4. TRCN category D
This is the TRCN category for teachers with NCE.
It is the lowest category level and you’re automatically eligible for TRCN registration with this qualification (no additional certificate required).
Category ‘D’ can be upgraded to ‘C’
