TRCN classify teachers with PhD as Category (A), Masters as (B), Bachelor’s degree as (C) and those with NCE as (D).
All these categories now share the same TRCN syllabus with content as follows.
1. Basic Maths (Numeracy)
This will test your maths understanding in working with numbers.
Areas of concentration
- Number sense and place value concepts.
- Basic operations and computational fluency.
- Fraction and decimal.
- Geometry and spatial reasoning.
- Measurement and data analysis.
- Algebraic thinking and patterns.
2. Foundational English (Literacy)
This will test your reading, writing and communication skills.
Areas of concentration
- Phonemic awareness and phonics instruction.
- Fluency development and reading strategies.
- Comprehension skills and critical thinking.
- Writing process and composition techniques.
- Vocabulary development and word study.
- Assessment and intervention strategies
3. ICT (Digital Skills)
This will test from your basic computer skills to advanced educational technology integration.

- Basic computer operations and file management.
- Internet research and information evaluation.
- Educational technology tools and platforms.
- Online collaboration and communication.
- Digital content creation and multimedia.
- Data privacy and cybersecurity awareness.
4. Pedagogy (Methodology)
This will test your pedagogical strategies, classroom management techniques and assessment methods.

5. Safeguarding (SSVFSN)
This will test your knowledge on safe learning environment, students’ well-being and child protection policies.
Violence against children and learners
- Safeguarding principles and reporting pathways specifically designed for schools and learning centres.
- Recognizing, preventing, and responding to violence against children and learners in educational settings.
Safety security and violence-free schools
- National policy framework for ensuring safety, security, and violence-free environments in schools.
- Guidelines for educational institutions to create and maintain safe learning spaces for all students.
Minimum standard for safe schools
- Essential minimum standards and requirements for creating safe school environments.
- Fundamental safety measures, protocols, and standards for all educational institutions to implement in ensuring student and staff safety.
